My Community Needs YLT Because...

The assignment was simple; to reach out to the community with a simple request to finish the following phrase:“My community NEEDS YLT because…”
… I have seen first-hand the opportunities it provides to people from all walks of life and the confidence many develop from putting on a performance.

(State Representative Eugene DePasquale, PA)

…without it, so many people would be lacking a creative outlet. So many members of the community may never discover their talents. So many children might never see a staged production that makes them realize a dream.YLT is a place that accepted me when no other theatre would. They've given me characters that called for me to really dig deep as an actor and develop something outside of my comfort zone. Though I'm very new to YLT, I am already eternally grateful for the opportunities given to me there- and the amazing friendships that have developed amongst fellow casts and crew. It is truly my favorite theatre in our area.

I love you, YLT!
(Joellen Flury, PA)

…volunteerism is at the heart of community and volunteering at YLT opens up a world of possibilities.

There is no greater joy than being in service. Singing and acting and participating in community theater is a spirit raising service to those who participate and those who attend the events produced. This is the ultimate win/win situation. We all NEED this in our lives to be complete.

I am YLT.
(Dani Hoy, PA)

...some people use theatre as a place to fill in the gaps in their own lives. It is a home away from home. Families are formed through volunteering and strong friendships and great business deals can be made through these friendships.

Some people find the best pleasure in life is to create. YLT provides this creative outlet in a safe, comfortable environment that I haven't found elsewhere.

YLT was the first place that felt like home when I moved in the area. It really helped me come out of my shell. I made friends that I never thought I would have even talked to. At YLT I feel safe, at home, I feel like my presence is wanted and needed. I've gained experience to make a lengthy resume and it certainly has gotten me far. My friendships have lasted.

Without YLT I would feel lost.
(Mary McCleary, PA)

...without it there would be several teens without a safe and constructive outlet for their creativity as well as their frustration.

It brings people together, I wouldn't have any of the incredible friends I have now if it weren't for YLT, and it allows people from different schools and backgrounds to communicate with those who share a common love.

YLT gives myself and countless others:

-A second home
-A place to feel safe
-People that share the same interests
-New friendships, and stronger old ones
-Connections that help make dreams come true
-A way to express things that would otherwise stay bottled inside
-A learning experience that only YLT can give
-A way to learn theater arts as well as life lessons

YLT brings people and family's together in too many ways to count.
(Heather Billy Wallen, PA)

…without it many people wouldn't be inspired to share their talents and entertain others in the community.
(Brittne Giannone, PA)

...without it, a staple entity of our arts community will be gone and this will severely compromise our ability to support each other, enjoy each others talents and be together in a positive and creative environment.
(Katie Robinette, PA)

…Without it many people would lose opportunities. They would lose a 2nd home, an outlet for creativity, a place to make their dreams in the arts come true, a chance to make new friends, a place to feel excepted, a chance to partake in an activity that doesn't cost money to join, a chance to better their language and public speaking skills as well as their confidence. Our community needs YLT because it is a place where families, actors and members always look forward to coming. YLT makes our community a better place in the joy it brings to those members of the community that have had the privilege of seeing what it can do.
(Katherine Andrews, PA)

…great talent is not found only in NY or LA...there is incredible talent right here in our community. YLT offers a safe loving environment for that talent to be expressed, cheered on, and grown. Community theater is a rich resource for this area and if it were not here, we would be all the poorer.
(Lisa Wooten Gildea, PA)

…children have the opportunity to discover, nurture, and develop parts of their minds and souls they never knew existed. The community itself needs the theater which produces artistic performances of a high quality in an area that doesn't have very many other options in the arts to participate in, and enjoy watching. The community needs YLT because without it people in the community would not have a positive place to use as a creative outlet.
(Beth Jacobs, PA)

…true bonds are formed while being there. friendships and people you love and care for are found while doing something you love.
(Catherine Howard, PA)

…it provides an artistic outlet for its performers; it also provides affordable entertainment and thought provoking, educational experiences for its audiences.

When people from diverse backgrounds and talents come together and create art, it is truly a community building experience. When YLT's talented volunteers and staff share their creation and their passion with the audience, as they did on the opening night of "The Wedding Singer," there is an electricity generated that is palpable.

Personally, my life has been immeasurably enriched by my involvement with YLT. It is where I made life-long friendships. It is where I met my wife; it is where we introduced our son to the magic of live theatre. His experiences as an audience member at YLT developed an appreciation of theatre that enhanced his education from elementary school through college.

For almost 80 years YLT has been an important part of the York community. It needs to continue in that role in order to educate and entertain future generations.
(Bob Hildebrand, PA)

...it is an amazing place for all ages to enjoy and learn theater. You also develop friendships that last a life time.
(Ryan Wachter, CA)

…it provides a home to those who need it; to people who want to feel safe and loved and valuable. It's a place where everyone matters, and everyone can make a difference.

Personally, YLT has been my constant for the past three years; no matter what's happening in my life, I know that I have friends and a place there. It's taught me, not just about the theatre, but about people and the kind of person I want to be.
(Caitlin Spivey, PA)

…local artists deserve opportunities to express themselves and their art. Children deserve the opportunity to have a safe, loving, creative place to build their self-esteem and flourish. Families deserve the opportunity to shine together. Singers deserve the opportunity to let their voices be heard. Dancers deserve the opportunity to move. And most importantly, my community deserves the opportunity to come together peacefully in appreciation of the arts.

“I regard theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” ~ Oscar Wilde
(Sara Hilton, PA)

…without community theater communities lack an important venue to showcase and promote the various talents of individuals - be it acting, singing, dance, directing, choreography, set design, lighting... no matter how "unseen" the job may be the worth of bringing a group of talented individuals together to produce a show - for no reason other than the enjoyment of an audience - is priceless.

More important, YLT is one of the few theaters who supports (and produces) original works of theater. Having been honored to have two of my plays produced through YLT's playwriting competition ("Relationalizing" and "Third Time Is The Charm") I know that they are a dedicated group of talented individuals who will give an unknown author the same emphasis as if it were Neil Simon or Rodgers and Hammerstein they were performing.

The value and energy they give every piece performed on their stage(s) cannot be replaced and - if lost - a vital part of York's culture and art will be lost, too!
(Brian Alex McDermott, VA)

…the creative process that thrives at YLT leads both children and adults alike to be more open-minded and accepting because of the diverse roles they portray AND because of the diverse people that make up this theater. In the future, those children who have grown up with the theatre will become more tolerant of sensitive issues. This creative process helps us, adults, open up in a way we might find difficult to do in other settings. For me personally, the shows I have been a part of at YLT have provided a ‘get-away’, a place to go and be with friends and forget about work, or other stressful things that tend to plague our day-to-day routines.

In particular, YLT’s children and youth who participate in this community theater have an incredible outlet to build skills like public speaking, commitment to service, and teamwork, whether building sets and stages as a crew member, delivering lines in a dialogue with fellow actors or working in concert as a musician with an ensemble. These “theater” skills can be utilized in the long term throughout life in reports, presentations, and interviews and in developing the necessary social skills to have and maintain healthy relationships. These healthy relationships are the cornerstone for any successful community…a community like York County, and that is why we need YLT now and for years to come.
(Tony Crerand, PA)

…YLT has taught me to be more tolerant of people who are different than me. I realize now that the differences are very small and the similarities are always there. That’s what I discovered at YLT and I thank God that I discovered it now(even though it's taken me many!!! years).
(Dr. Wayne Mundis, PA)

…it is York's Community Theatre. It provides an opportunity for local people from all walks of life to participate in every aspect of the art of live theatre.
(Thomas D. O’Shea, Esquire, PA)

...we need a common place where our community can come together to tell our stories. YLT is as vital to our community as our churches, hospitals, and schools because it brings us all together so we can unite and express our hearts and souls. YLT also provides a place to harness the creative energy of our youth. York has very few places for the arts and losing YLT would be losing a piece of ourselves.
(Craig Copas, PA)

…not only does it offer the community a chance to perform in and see great plays and musicals, it is a wonderful place to meet true friends who share a common interest.
(Jen Beatty McGurn, PA)

…it is an amazing outlet for people to express their creativity and make strong and long lasting friendships as well as learn lots of new skills. It also provides a form of entertainment that is seldom seen anymore. YLT is not just a community theatre, it's a safe haven. It's a place that anyone can go and they won't feel like they are being judged or discriminated or made fun of. There are too many reasons to list as to why YLT needs to be a part of the community. YLT is a staple in the community and it is one that should never be removed.
(Zach Hall, TX)

…it is the only place where kids can get their feet wet in the arts, and learn how much it can truly enrich their lives. It certainly did for me!
(Abby Snook, PA)

… the arts are integral to any society, and freedom of expression is one of our most basic needs as human beings. The theater has the ability to teach and to transform.

For an audience, it is a chance to see and experience something that is a unique exchange between themselves and the performers. It may introduce them to an issue they were previously unaware of, or teach them something they never knew about themselves.

For performers and technicians it a chance to share their talents and passion with others, in a way that is immediate and real.

For young people the theater is a place to create and learn. It is a place where they are free to express their creativity, and learn discipline, professionalism, and the value of commitment.

The theater builds the community, just as the community builds the theater.
(Melissa McGinley, PA)

… YLT gives people the opportunity to share their talents. In many cases, people would not have this opportunity without YLT. The arts are an important part of any community and help to make that community a better place. YLT is a place where great friendships have been formed.
(Shannon Alamo, PA)

…where would York be without it? In the 1920’s a group of artists sought an outlet for their imagination, for their desire to create, and they formed a players group called York Little Theatre. 77 years later the theatre is still a staple to the cultural imprint of our community.

YLT impacts lives. It is a place where people meet, maybe just once, maybe for a lifetime, but always carry the memory of their time here. This is a place that is visceral, its smell, its essence, leave a holding memory in every single person who steps through its doors.

YLT forces commitment and it forced community. It looks each and every member of this community square in the eye and says, “You belong. You are needed. We want you here.” There is no other organization in this community that so blatantly represents the melting pot desire to encompass every age, gender, race, status, orientation, etc…and it makes no judgments based on difference. What better definition of community could you ask for?

YLT seeks strong leadership and seeks stronger volunteers to produce, not just theatrical plays, but worlds of involvement that embrace our minds, our humors, our bodies, our opinions, our souls and above all, our identities.

YLT must exist. There is no choice. York is a richer place for it, and must take every step possible to protect this monumental heritage.
(Eric Bradley Long, PA)

…it gives every day people the opportunity to become something they dream about.
(Rebecca Wolf, PA)

… it's a place where anyone can not only come to learn and grow, but also to experience and interact with the arts in so many different ways. It's a place where creativity comes alive and imagination flourishes. Anyone can be involved and supported by a fun and creative family of community established at YLT.
(April Moore, PA)

… it's a way to escape to different time periods and explore your inner being in a safe environment. Everyone gets so close and becomes a family. I personally love the closeness of people there. I've been going there since I was two years old and I got into singing and acting because my sister was in plays and musicals, but stayed in it because the way it made me feel with all those friends and to perform. And I have two people that are my t-daddies or theatre daddies because they’re so protective and want the best for my sister and me like a father would. I have no idea what I'd do if something happened to YLT. My family would be so crushed.
(Angel Harrison, PA)

… First, a story:

I was a backward, shy, insecure, awkward teenager. Had it not been for theater and music and the arts, I still would be (albeit, not a teenager anymore--but that's a different story). My worldview would be narrower, my social circles would be less than half of what they are, my life would have a lot less---I don't know---passion, motivation, creativity, depth, etc.

The community needs YLT and theaters like it to encourage new generations of people--the young and young at heart. It gives them a creative stimulation--whether they are onstage, backstage, or in the house.

My community NEEDS YLT because it’s a great encouragement for anyone who experiences it.
(Darren Wagner, PA)

...on a personal level it has provided me with an opportunity to act in plays that otherwise would never have happened. I was attracted by the high level of YLT's play selections (Shaw, Shakespeare, Mary Zimmerman) and my husband's successful experience in Wilde's Importance of Being Earnest. Cast in the first play I auditioned for, I returned to the theatre after decades of minimal involvement. YLT's irresistible programming and gentle direction made me realize that I still had the skills to be directly involved in an art form I thought had passed me by. Many of my fellow actors were equally empowered by YLT. I was very impressed with the operation of the theatre despite some challenges in the aging theatre building. Even though we don't live in York, we were willing to make the drive so we could participate, and I know we brought audience members from our area to see the shows we were in. It makes a huge difference to volunteers and audiences alike, and needs the full financial support from all who are able to help.
(Ellen Hughes, PA)

… it's where I had my first success, my first failure, and my first kiss. Theatre is an important part of our culture. It needs a place, a building, a space in order to survive - and a community theatre, especially one with as long a history of doing amazing work as YLT, is the perfect venue for the kind of growth and art that it's hard to find elsewhere. Support YLT and its artistic director, Eric Long. It needs your help and love.
(Neal Dodson, CA)

… YLT has on average over 500 volunteers walk through it's doors each year - people needing to do community service; people wanting to share their talents with the community; people with limited abilities needing to perform productive work or have a social outlet.
(Stacy Deaver Ryan, PA)

… it's a place where dreams are cultivated. YLT gave me the platform to explore my creativity and find my voice.
(Cathy Remmert, NY)

… our area has a need for cultured learning experiences. Through the wonderful plays performed, YLT has offered avenues for this area to tackle many social issues facing our world today in a civilized compassionate fashion. Without organizations like YLT, the region will fall prey to the status quo, leaving all to tolerate injustices that are detrimental to our way of life.
(Brian McClinton, PA)

… it's the one place where creativity, cooperation, teamwork, and learning flourish. It's needed because it brings business and new employees to the area. One of the first things prospective employees ask about a new city or town is "What is the culture like there? What sort of arts offerings are there that me and my family can see and/or participate in?" YLT is the one and only live theater in town where people from all walks of life - teachers, lawyers, construction workers, students, etc. - can come in, audition, and strut their stuff on stage. Support YLT. It's good for the community. It's great for creativity and growth.
(Lori Myers, PA)

…YLT meant and still means so much to me. It was a place to belong, a place of friendship when I needed it most. I'll never forget the times I had there, and York would never be the same if it was gone.
(Tim Reid, PA)

…the arts - especially local arts like theater - are key in helping bring together communities. York Little Theater has been part of York for decades and has provided low cost, high quality local entertainment for people of all ages. Every community needs local arts and entertainment, and York needs YLT.
(Brian W. Schoeneman, DC)

…only community theater has the ability to reach and to INVOLVE every member of the community. It allows anyone the opportunity to explore and participate in the artistic process.
(Tom McLaughlin, PA)

... its a place that cultivates culture, art, education, life experience, friendships, and constructive growth to those who are involved and to those who see shows there. It’s a place that is needed in the community in order to provide these things in ways that no other place in York can do.
(Ken Bruggeman, PA)

…it has become a family to me. It has also given me opportunities that I would have not gotten any where else. YLT has taught me so much and has pushed me to places I didn't know I could go with my talents. YLT has also opened my network up to meet people and expand my horizons. With out YLT we would fall subject to what this state is trying to do to the Arts. That is getting rid of them. The Arts are dieing; is that something we really want to lose?!!!
(Giulio Marchi, PA)

…it generates more community.
(Libby Spangler, PA)

…YLT is part of my family. I grew up with YLT and I doubt that I would have discovered my love of acting (and really all things theatre) if it wasn't for the incredible cast of characters that is YLT. Plus, that is where my second favorite Eric works....
(Eric Brown, PA)

…it offers theatrical opportunities to children, allowing them to experience theater in a supportive environment. Many other arts, dance or theater classes, come with added costs that can keep people from finding something they might truly enjoy, but YLT offers an amazing theater experience at NO COST! I did my first show at YLT when I was in 4th grade, and it was one of the driving factors to my eventual pursuit of a Bachelor's (and now a Master's) degree in a Music Performance field. I hope that other children can experience this, just as I did, and I hope that there will not only be some that enjoy it for what it is, but that there might be one that sees it for more, and joins me in pursuing an artistic career.
(Ryan C. Connelly, OH)

…I still remember the first day I walked into YLT and asked what I could do. It opened the door to many lasting friendships, incredible opportunities to help in a creative way, and best of all I got to be in front and/or behind the scenes of so many great productions. We should be proud to have such a theater in York. There's so much talent in our area. We want them to have a place to shine.
(Karen Wishart, PA)

…York has a growing population of youth gifted in the arts and with out YLT that talent has very few places to go, YLT offers a positive environment for the youth of Central Pa to perform and feel involved. For me YLT helped nurture a passion in me and I am now moving on in a career professionally. If we lose YLT the younger generations may never find/nurture the passion I did.
(Christopher Henry Young, PA)

…YLT remains the foremost venue of live theatre in York city and county. "Theatre" is not "recreation" or "amusement." It is a gathering of a "congregation" community of audience to reflect on life, politics, emotions, human behavior and conditions. YLT provides that forum in its unique facility, offering the broadest spectrum of theatre art to the York Community. By shear numbers, York City deserves YLT.
(Victor Capecce, PA)

…though I have not done many shows, I feel welcome and at home when I walk through the doors of YLT. Everyone is so loving. Furthermore, people have a passion for theater and there is no other place in York like York Little Theater to give people a chance to pursue that passion without being perfect.
(Kenice Miller, PA)

…it's an incredible outlet for creativity and a venue for showcasing the stories that touch our lives. Each play/musical/performance opens the mind of the community to a new perspective, a new story, and wondrous world of possibilities. As a performer, it's a true joy to have the opportunity to do what I love close to home with a quality association.
(Roxanne Craft Wolgemuth, PA)

…YLT was the first community theatre that made me feel like I was part of a big family. They included stage crew people in just about everything and don’t let the stage crew feel left out of the picture like some other community theatres do to their stage crew.
(Greg Gesell, PA)

…theater is the key to expression and gives us the ability to ask questions others are afraid to ask. Without theater and YLT you are taking away the chance to give the people in the York and surrounding communities the chance to express themselves artistically and move others in the community in a way that only theater can move a person. Theater is personal and you get to be part of the action and the emotions going on in the space. This is something that no other art form can do. It would be a great loss to let YLT disappear from the community!
(Kelly Rhyne, PA)

…without it, I never would have discovered one of the biggest passions of my life. It creates an environment that's extremely open, and there's something for everyone. It is an amazing place, and because of it, I'm not a social shut-in and I have so many new skills.
(Philip Rodney Rooney, PA)

…YLT welcomes new comers to their family with open hearts. I've gotten to work with so many wonderful and talented performers! If you saw Pirates or Ragtime or any of the past season shows you saw how hard everyone works. It takes a community to put on a show! Help support your Local community Theatre!
(Robyn Thompson, PA)

…because every community needs an active and vibrant community theater. Those of us who have had the priveledge of both being on stage and sitting in the audience can honestly say that there is no experience like being touched by what you see on stage, as well as being told by audience member that they were profoundly affected by your performance.
(David Payne, PA)

…when I moved to York with my husband back in '82, I was thrilled to find there was a community Theatre where we could go see quality shows and there were even shows for children. As the years have gone by, my husband and I have found ourselves more and more involved in YLT. Both of us, having a love for so many of the aspects of theatre, found a warm, welcoming place where we could share our talents and interests in so many ways. We could even experience, learn, and try new aspects of the theatre and appreciation for each and every person abounds. It would be so sad for anything to happen to YLT. Unfortunately, that is possible because of finances. We need places like this where people of so many different walks of life and age brackets can come together to learn, do, enjoy, and share. I hope all you reading this will help us by supporting YLT: come see a show, work behind scenes, be on stage, and/or donate. We need the whole community involved!!"
(Colleen Mundis, PA)

…YLT is where I saw my VERY first show and I discovered that I loved theatre. I preformed in my first show in 4th grade and wanted to do more...so I kept coming back. Everyone was so warm and welcoming to me and made me feel part of the YLT family.
(Theresa Burgess, PA)

…the community needs the arts. I have nothing but good things to say about YLT and its staff. I always felt welcome and part of a family. And I feel that not only the theater people should support the arts but

also local businesses and the government. The YLT helps people discover their true self and gives them power in other areas in their life. Those in theater and the arts learn a discipline and that discipline is carried through life.
(Malakin Riverstone, PA)

…it provides people of all race, all shape, all size, and all ages a place to be creative. When people come together creatively it creates friendships that last a lifetime. Some of my best friends are from YLT shows.
(David Smith, MT)

…theatre has taught my granddaughter creativity, focus, discipline, team spirit, kindness, open mindedness and much more.
(Marjorie Bicknell, PA)

…working in the theater helps you to learn organization, concentration, teamwork, and so much more. It is a way to learn who you are and who you can be.
(Jenny Beth Kissner, PA)

…it helps feed creative self-expression in a group effort. It builds up a vital aspect of any community by bringing people together with a common, positive goal to explore issues of the human heart. Drama can open up our understanding in ways that go deeper than lectures or study. And the opportunities for face-to-face connections in live performances benefit audience and performers alike, helping create a vital building block that enriches the entire community.
(Cary Burkett, PA)

…without the access to live theatre in our community it would be very boring and it gives so many young and aspiring actors the chance to perform in front of people.
(Brian Bailone, PA)

…theater is important. It provides a place for anyone to go for artistic expression, acceptance, fun, self exploration, confidence, friends and family.

I was looking to be artistic and I found much more. I found a lovely group of people who kept in contact with me even when I moved to Baltimore and now that I am back, will welcome me back with open arms. I learned to be a stage manager thanks to YLT. I fell in love with stage managing. YLT gave me a passion I never knew existed inside of me. Stage managing and theater will always be a part of my life now. I am so grateful of YLT and everyone I have worked with there. YLT gave me a side of myself I didn't know I had and now can't live without.
(Adina Ficano, MD)

…it provides an outlet for the amazing amount of talent and artistic ability that exists in York County, as well as a safe haven for the youth of our community to work together and form important and unforgettable friendships and bonds.
(Meghan Mitzel, PA)

…it saves marriages. Seriously, I would never have stayed married 24 years if I didn't have YLT to utilize my time and energy in such a positive way. And it's also given my husband and I the opportunity to perform on stage together a couple of times - priceless! The couple or family that plays together stays together.
(Becky Shank Wilcox, PA)

…YLT has renewed my confidence in community theatre. YLT is definitely one-of-a-kind, and unlike any other theatre company I have been involved with. Being able to be part of an amazing cast that has become a second family to me has truly been the experience of a lifetime...an experience that I will NEVER forget. We need YLT to thrive and move forward so that people like me can have an outlet for expressing our passions and gifts, and so that we as a community can be entertained and inspired.
(Adam Dienner, PA)

…have seen what it means to people. They go there and make it their second home, a place where we all get along and where were nothing less than one big family. I have seen so many people change for the better simply by going there and being in a play that i don't know what the community would be without YLT, nor do I want to find out. On a personal level, being a kid from the city, if I wouldn't have the theatre to occupy my time there are much worse things that I or anybody could be doing. YLT is a place like no other, with shows like no other, and a family (you guess it) like no other.
(Deaven Brown, PA)

…it's the ONLY local theater in the area, drawing from local talent, and developing talent in the youth of the area. There's a history here from which many adults will recall special moments spent in the audience or on stage. Memories - you can't put a price on memories.
(Stacy Weaver Robinson, PA)

…York Little Theatre is the only local theatre for the people and by the people. it is an outlet for people ranging from kids to young adults to those that can barely walk but still somehow make it in to see a show even with four feet of snow on the ground. YLT is not just a theatre, it is a family and for many it is a home away from home where they can escape sometimes unhappy lives and find that little bit of happiness that keeps them going. YLT is a place of friendships and comradeship where people from all walks of life can come together to work their art and put on something beautiful. I for one could not imagine York without YLT, which provides me with a sense of well being, purpose and family, which often times I cannot achieve elsewhere. Theatre is an important, living, breathing form of artwork and one that York cannot afford to be without.
(John Dumpman, PA)

…the theater, which is in no thing, but makes use of everything, gestures, sounds, words, screams, light, darkness, rediscovers itself at precisely the point where the mind requires a language to express its manifestations. It offers a real experience to anyone who attends a show letting them forget their life to live in the moment of a character’s life without the vulgarity of expensive tickets of other theaters and the unneeded special effects of movies.
(Mario Ricchiuto, PA)

…there's no other community theater I've been to that emphasizes the community aspect of community theater. It really brings in people of different backgrounds and ideas for the same reason, to express themselves. I've been in only two shows at YLT and I have concluded that it's impossible to go into a show there without leaving with a family. I can open up at YLT and not be afraid of being judged. It's a safe atmosphere where a person can go to see amazing, heart-felt performances. There may be other community theaters out there, but none that will live up to the standards that YLT has set for me.
(Chris Pearson, PA)

…it helps children grow as individuals and become fine actors.
(Rachel, PA)

…is a great way to learn acting, it helped me a lot.
(Emily, PA)

...I love performing and it gives you tons of opportunities to musicals, plays, classes, etc… And it has great instructors.
(Amber, PA)

…YLT means family. Because you make lots of friends from cast and class. It also means many opportunities to show what you can do.
(Stephen, PA)

…my sister really enjoys it.
(Emily, PA)

…you can see the real enjoyment that I have witnessed in all the different projects that the children are involved.
(Dot, PA)

…I went here every summer for a very long time. I know a couple people here and I always meet more! I love YLT !
(Catie, PA)

…I have something to do and a lot of friends to hang out with.
(Kathryn, PA)

…it has been the performing arts hub of York County for decades! This theatre, through its productions, education, and community outreach, not only provides quality entertainment for York but also inspires and cultivates local artists to work professionally in the world of theatre. I fell in love with YLT before I was even old enough to be on stage and that love affair continued as I grew up and spent many years performing and volunteering. I sincerely hope YLT is able to continue its legacy in the community …there is nothing quite like the magic of LIVE THEATRE!!!
(Kristi Alanes, CA)

…it is made up of a wonderful group of people who come together to share their passions and dreams. This has been my first experience with YLT... and already I have been welcomed by a whole new group of incredible friends. YLT is an accepting and supportive environment and a fantastic place to learn and grow. <3 Thank you, YLT!
(Lauren Altheah Adkins, PA)

…it allows people of all ages to break the monotony of their lives and LIVE for a few hours each day. YLT shaped my life and future in a way that I cannot fully explain, except to say that I would absolutely NOT be who I am and NOT be doing what I am doing without my experiences at YLT. This is no exaggeration. I depend on the skills I learned then to make a living today. YLT allowed me to explore my interests in theatre and music in a way that allowed me to forge my own path in this world and touch people in a whole new way. It is a SAFE place that connects with people's souls and collaborates with their desire to perform. It is because of my learning experiences at YLT that I am now starring in a touring show and performing in an off-Broadway theatre this summer at the New York Fringe Festival with @[182538993402:135:Playing By Air Productions]. York is so lucky to have such an amazing organization run by equally amazing people!
(Ben E. Detrick, PA)

…YLT has changed my life. I have met the most amazing people there, and they were seriously my second family. Being in YLT shows, I've learned so much more about theater, and improved so much. If YLT would to vanish, it would take away from this town. We need somewhere for theater people to go, and YLT is the place.
(Alex Snell, PA)

…currently, MY community does not have a YLT nor something marginally equivalent. I am a resident of the Harrisburg/Hershey area, and yet, I will gladly travel the hour and a half round-trip everyday to and from rehearsals or shows because this theater is a rarity and worth every mile. I was brought up by a mother who teaches drama, and as a result, have been engrossed in theater since as far back as I can remember, but throughout my life, never had I come to a theater where everybody is so dedicated to not only the shows, but to the casts as well. Performing at YLT or being a part of YLT in any way is to become a member of a loving family, that will leave so many wonderful impressions on you to last a lifetime.
(Brett Caffier, PA)

…it fills a need not only for people who want to experience live theatre performed by local talent, but it provides opportunities to those folks who have a passion for any one of the many facets of the arts. Everyone is welcome whether you want to be on stage, direct a show, costume or sew, build sets, join the board, teach or attend a class and the list goes on. No experience is necessary and you learn so much about yourself and the process every time you get involved. I loved being on stage in high school and college, but never felt the need to pursue it as a career. YLT allows me to perform in a show, help with stage crew and even stage manage a show this past season. This has yielded some of the most important relationships in my life from a plethora of friends, to best friends and I even met my wife at YLT. I know I speak for many when I say it is a home away from home and I love my theatre family.
(Lee Howard, PA)

…YLT is both a creative outlet and a second home for me and many others who I've had the pleasure of working with. It's a melting pot of many great, unique talents and a place where the entire community can come together and make something wonderful. YLT is less of a place and more of an experience that I personally feel makes life grander and grander every time it is relived.
(Emily Dale White, PA)

…it gives the opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to enjoy theatre -- either on stage or watching from the audience.
(Cindy Leiphart, PA)

…YLT is an irreplaceable refuge where creativity is born, imagination lives and families are made. I don't want to be a part of a community that doesn't value a place where we are enveloped into a safe and healthy environment and are encouraged to be more than we ever thought we could be. YLT is a GEM and should be protected, embraced and promoted as the only place where dreams are transformed into reality. There is no place like it. I cannot imagine life without YLT. Without it, to say that we all would be the poorer for it would be a tragic understatement.
(Christin Ott Kraskewicz, PA)

...it is the only real culture we have left. passionate people volunteer to produce direct act and choreograph these shows . I have had Many good times at YLT have met great people and have formed friendships that will last a lifetime. To let such a passionate institute shut down would be a disgrace to our community.
(Andrew Shrader, PA)

…it is a creative and therapeutic outlet for those who want to add joy to their lives. For those not inspired to perform or assist production, YLT is a great “local” venue to enjoy local talent, and have an affordable source for live entertainment, and feel as though they are a part of the community.
(Dave Hamme, PA)

…community theatre is so important to so many people. Gives so many people so much joy. It’s something to do after school or work. Much like sports it keeps people out of trouble and installs self-confidence. Community theatre is one of the best activities out there and the best part is, there is always something for someone.
(Jeff Anderson, PA)

…it pulls the community out of the new technological entertainment. It reminds the community that we don’t need High Def or the Internet or a game console to enjoy yourself. All it takes is a few prompts and the natural skills of humans. People expect all sorts of stuff with video games and such. With theatre, it’s always surprising, even if you know the play. The cast of YLT has always consisted of unique and talented people from all over. With how anti-social the country is and how common cliques and groups are for teenagers, it’s very hard to find a place as comfortable and accepting as YLT.
(Robby Banks, PA)

…it’s a place where my age, profession or interest range can either partake in or enjoy watching any one of several excellent productions. As a teen I always said, “if it wasn’t for the fact that I needed to sleep I would just not bother leaving YLT.”
(Zach Thomas, PA)

…community theater is a resource for the whole community. Everyone can be a part of productions and plays. I can think of no more positive and compassionate environment where everyone has the opportunity to express themselves either on stage, or in set design or costuming or painted art on sets or sound or lighting or music or whatever! The opportunities to be part of something that is grander than the individuals involved is very heady stuff and everyone deserves to experience that feeling when the curtains go up on opening night. A high like no other, and though you may become addicted to it, it'll never let you down.
(Daniel S. Hoy, PA)

…it's an incredibly caring group of people brought together for a gratifying learning experience for all ages.
(Ciara Harper, PA)

…YLT is my home. It is where my family is, where I feel I belong, where I release my creativity. Acting is my passion, YLT is where I discovered that passion and where I plan to pursue it. The people of YLT are so accepting. There is a place for everyone there. YLT IS NEEDED!
(Erin Gildea, PA)

…this theatre has taught me the first things i ever needed to know about staging myself, stage presence, projection... all the truly important things. not to mention, it has brought me great joy, doing my very first show there when I was in second grade! It has brought me to meet some of my best friends now. And most importantly, performance art is a great way to get involved and it teaches you soooo much and for it to be taken away from this town (one of only a few theaters) would break many kid, teen, and adult hearts. YLT is where I got my first start and it's where I want many more kids to come through out the years!
(Bradlee Alan Gorrera, PA)

…YLT helps so many people. Though I haven't been active for a couple of years, the skills and the perspective gained at the theatre are everlasting. I can't imagine a York without YLT and those that can obviously haven't stepped through its doors. The people I experienced in my days at YLT are so valuable and have impacted me severely. I honestly don't think I'd be where I am today without the foundation built at YLT.
(Stephen Payne, PA)

…it can help people by taking them out of their lives for just a little while... theatre can sweep you off into some fantastical place to make you forget about the world outside. it can hypnotize you into thinking that the characters on stage are the most important thing in the world and you won't rest until you know what happens. it can bring friends into your life that you just need. it allows people to perform or direct or run crew... and do something they love to do and have a passion for without making it a job.

For me, theatre is a drug and I can never stay away for long...
(Jason Genise-Gdula, PA)

…it's a wonderful experience for acting and not only that but you make new friends and you get to work together as a team to make a wonder performance(:
(Adele Bartha, PA)

…it is a theatre that puts on very professional productions, and it allows talented, creative people to interact and share ideas. The commute to the theatre is completely worth it because I know the shows are top quality, and the theatre provides an escape from everyday life and troubles.
(Kellie Duncan, MD)

…every time there is a show there, it is someone's first exposure to live theatre. Last night I was thoroughly enjoying The Wedding Singer and at intermission a little girl (6 or 7 maybe) walked by me, holding a woman's hand, and she said, excitedly, "This is my first time here! This is my first show!" I don't want to deny that experience to anyone, whether 6 or 10 or 72! Let's keep YLT alive!
(Priscilla Jarrell Brown, PA)

…it is a part of so many people. A job, an escape, a home; It weaves its way into your life and never unroots. It is a place for having fun, learning new things, and discovering yourself. Some of the strongest bonds I have ever made have come from being at YLT and immersing myself in the the most accepting, caring community there is.
(Dimitra Skouras, PA)

… everyone needs an escape, regardless of the economic climate.
(Brandon Clemens, PA)

…well you Eric, along with the cast of Beauty And The Beast were there for my first experience not only in a theater, or on stage, but on the stage of York Little Theater. And if you recall the emotional speech that I had given, expressing the sincere feelings & thoughts that I had through the entire 3 weekends of Beauty And The Beast. And even now today, I could not have picked a better chance to pick my self up from the life style of anti-socialism. Sentimentally it was the greatest show I have been in, and will continue to be so. Disregarding the whirlwind of emotions I was going through via outside the theater, I managed to make a few decisions that I never could have made on my own.

I was going through severe chronic depression, anxiety issues, and for a while I was having second’s thoughts on life, contemplating suicide more time through that phase then in my whole life even today. I was a mess, and I was picking up alcoholic problems, just constantly wishing for an escape. My writing came a grinding halt, and I was going nowhere slowly. Just when death seemed brighter then my future, I was invited to do stage crew for Beauty And The Beast. And suddenly my weeks weren’t as bad. The month of November seemed to last forever, and it went against the old saying “Time flies by when your having fun.” Even though I was having fun, the feelings that I felt, the thoughts that I would think, made me stand idle while I was being shown another path to go down.

I never had support for my writing, not from my friends, and not really from my family. So the only sense of pride, accomplishment, and usefulness that I felt was from my self. But with my life going down the crooked downward spiral of conflicting thoughts and feelings I always had one place that I could go to, to feel a sense of pride, to feeling a sense of accomplishment, love, and a gathering of people that accepted me, let me know how much they appreciated me. And every time all the time it was York Little Theater. It has become a second home to me, it’s the only place I would devote my time and passion for, and if it wasn’t for York Little Theater I honestly don’t know where I’d be.

Despite how beat up, and exhausted I feel right now, and against my own lesser judgment, I have managed to push through everyday, feeling better about my self, to come to this theater, and dedicate my time and love for this place. No matter what condition it’s in, I have never not wanted to be here, to do whatever I could, and do whatever I could at my best, and at my potential. This place gave me an escape when I thoughts alcohol was my only alternative, and even though I still have my good days and bad days in York Little Theater just like everyone else, there’s no place I’d rather be. The only thing that’s certain, is uncertainty.

You’ll never know how much longer these walls will keep the good spirit of all those who have came here, and made history for future generation to look back and see the accomplishment that we’ve achieved as a community theater. But I do know, that no matter how much time we have left, that I’ll take time to my advantage and not waste a day, or take the time left for granted. I won’t forget what York Little Theater did for me, and I dare anyone, but also welcome anybody to come to this theater, and see if they don’t feel a sense of security, and a sense of opening to a new beginning.

To round up everything, and make a yet to be longer story short. I was just a few steps away from doing something that I can never take back, but without sounding cliché York Little Theater grabbed me by the wrist and helped direct me where to go. A place like York Little Theater needs to exist, because if it didn’t, I couldn’t tell anyone where I’d be, and I may just be one person, but I can never completely express how I feel, and I can never repay this ONE place, for doing this ONE thing, other than dedicate what I have within me to a place that truly deserves it, and deserves to be around for more people lost like I was. People that are looking for something just like York Little Theater. I’m still on a road to recovery, but I can honestly say, the day that York Little Theater is no more, I will breathe in, but not breathe out, the same way as I always have been able to.

For the little while that it’s been worth, it’s been worth all the while.
(Anonymous, PA)

…it makes the arts accessible to those who might not be able to go see it otherwise.
(Kiersten Dennis, PA)

…it will never be done with all it has to offer. This is my first experience with YLT and you see the dedication, passion and a degree of cohesiveness that this theater thrives on. People from all backgrounds help foster this incredible environment of welcoming and support that brings out talents that people might not have known they were even capable of. "It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance and I know of no substitute whatever for the force and beauty of its process."-Henry James.
(Andrew Matseur, PA)

…it is a place for people in all areas of production to practice their skills and feel welcome doing it. The theatre promotes creativity within our community and is an outlet for people in all walks of life to get involved. YLT welcomed me this summer and has had a positive influence on me. I was faced with a challenging situation the week before the production opened and unknowingly, the theatre and the people of YLT provided a place for me to focus my energy somewhere more positively. In the short time I have been at YLT, I have already made lasting memories. I can only hope that I will be able to make many more like them and these same doors can be opened for others like me.
(Emily Reineberg, PA)

... it is a place where everyone fits in and can leave with new friends! Everyone can feel comfortable in their own creative way and unleash their inner nerd, and not be afraid of being judged! York Little Theater is a comfortable place that so many people love to call a second home and a second family!
(Katie Gesell, PA)

…it's a place for people to be creative, for people to bond, and have fun. It's like a second home, to me, and a lot of other people as well.
(Cierra Heilman, PA)

…it’s a place where everyone no matter who you are is accepted for the talent that you have, big or small. It’s a family that keeps on growing and you can always come back to.
(Jason Michael Blanski, PA)

…it provides everyone with the opportunity to come out and see great productions that lighten people's lives through entertainment and allows individuals to get involved with live theatre and the arts. There's nothing quite like live theatre.
(Abigail Rose Dienner, PA)

…not only is it a place to see great theatre, its also a place to be a part of something bigger then yourself. YLT has become like a second family to me and many others. Community theatre provides a safe place for actors and musicians from all different backgrounds and levels of training to come together and accomplish something magnificent.
(Erica Bonsall, PA)

…it's where I saw my first show ever! It's the theatre that got me hooked! My brother WAY back in the day was in a show there and I remember sitting in the seats and thinking "wow, this is amazing" and I know, after seeing many shows at YLT myself, that I'm not the only one with thoughts like that. YLT is needed because it changes lives.
(Stacey Schell, PA)

... I LOVE YLT! Such a wonderful little theatre that accepts all...children through adult! Its a place where friendships are made and its a place to express your creative side...whether you are an actor, builder, seamstress, etc! What a great place to see awesome entertainment by the people of your own community! YLT has personally touched my life and my sons in so many ways :) To see a child be able to express themselves in a creative way is just so amazing! YLT is place for that opportunity to happen!
(Brenda Dettrey, PA)

…YLT is where I grew up. I have made so many friends and memories there it's ridiculous. I haven't been active for a few years, but I still attend shows and keep in touch with all of the amazing people I have gotten to know in the 13 years since I started with classes. I strongly believe that my life would be much less entertaining if YLT had never been a part of it.
(Stephanie Shanaman, PA)

…It provides a place to develop and nurture true creativity. Almost everywhere we go, whether it’s home, work, shopping and even social events, requires a level of conformity with the general public. Within the walls of York Little Theatre people are encouraged to not only think outside the box, but to refuse to acknowledge the existence of that box. It is the birthplace of new thoughts and ideas.
(Sandy Kratz, PA)

…it's not only a place where people come to watch flippin' sweet plays and musicals, it's a place where people of pretty much any age can get involved with something that is good for their creativity and themselves as a whole.
(Jarik Hieronymus, PA)

…for many reasons, first of which being its historical importance to the York area. YLT has been around for almost 80 years. Imagine all of the people that have gone there. YLT most likely was a place that was able to give joy to be in times when they needed it, such as World War II, Vietnam, and so forth. It would be a shame for such a historic, memorable establishment to exist no more.

On a more personal note, YLT has given me the chance to continue to express myself through the arts. Where I live there are no year round community theatres that are so easily accessible to me. Also, YLT has given me a chance to work with new directors and new people. I have built so many fantastic new friendships that would never have happened if it wasn't for YLT. It is a truly magical place and it would be a sad day when York no longer had its little theatre.
(Tyler Workman, MD)

...live theater is a face-to-face interactive environment that is not found in most of today's activities. The energy that flows through YLT is on a level all its own. Theater is not just entertainment, it is a way for people to come together and experience something special. All communities need YLT to continue inspiring generations to do great things through these experiences.
(Robert McCleary, PA)

… “I wanted to give this some thought before I sent it to you because, while you asked for a brief comment, it would be a disservice for me to only write one sentence.

I guess I could start with the fact that when I received your email, I was in the Adirondacks working with an award winning playwright, to develop her newest play for the Lake George Theatre Lab. We have since returned to the city and are preparing to mount the world premiere production off-Broadway.

I could also point out that last month I produced three new shows, directed a show, and starred in a show all in midtown Manhattan.

I could talk about how every day of my life is spent furthering my desire to tell stories through theatre, and doing it in the most challenging place ever, the mecca, New York.

When I was about ten years old, I had two friends who were very involved in YLT's children' s theatre. I wanted nothing more then to get to do a play at the little theatre too. My first experience was working on The Wind in the Willows on the costume crew in about 1990. As they say, I was bitten...

I spent ten summers on the Mainstage. At a time when my family was splitting up, and I was discovering love and angst, and nothing felt stable or good, I relied on the arts to buoy me through life. Every moment spent at YLT is seared in my memory, I took every second seriously. YLT kept me focused and responsible and grew my confidence. Even at our most ill-behaved we were great kids. And I met others just like me - struggling for a place to fit in and sharing a love for this art form.

(On a personal note, to this day, this best summer of my life was 1994. The summer of Me and My Girl.)

The thing is, I first heard about YLT's troubles from Becky Fry, another kid I grew up with at YLT who is now a theatre professional in New York City. So many of us built foundations for our lives at that institution. And I don't just mean those of us in professional theatre roles. I know several people who grew into wonderful parents, teachers, and patrons of the arts. Get these words out and listen to the York Area community, find out what they want. People know that the arts are too important to lose. Have faith, things will work out.

And do the Sound of Music. Or Annie. People love kiddies!
(Kate Erin Gibson, NY)

…it offers artists of all ages a chance to ply their crafts - acting, dance, song, design, sound, construction. It is a haven for the community, and has been through decades. There are many theatres in the area that would not exist without it, or would be lesser for its non-existence. Though footlights may dim many times through a season, YLT will always be special because it has launched the artistic endeavors of so many artistic souls - and how many other venues in this area can lay claim to that feat?
(Blythe Hart, PA)

…it offers opportunities for everyone and anyone in the community to get involved in productions, which means you meet people from other areas that you might not have met otherwise. It's different from any other type of theatre. There's something special about it that can't be replaced.
(Katelyn Jo Waltimyer, PA)

…the community needs a place where people from all different walks of life can come together and create something. It allows opportunities for people to express themselves - and most of us don't get that chance in our everyday lives. Community theater has changed my life - I met my husband through theater, a huge number of my friends. I know YLT offers experiences that change people's lives - either through writing, directing, performing or even as an audience member and seeing live theater. We can not allow the community to lose this rich, valuable, historic resource.
(Dr. Tatiana Dalton, PA)

…it builds relationships that last a lifetime. I met some of my closest friends through YLT.

Not only that, but I have been given a chance to fulfill a dream, directing my first show. I have taken the lessons from that experience and applied them to other shows, and my life in general.

YLT is also a wonderful place to pass these lessons on to future generations. As a Theatre Teacher, I got to impart my experiences to younger actors. They got to see experience the 'Why' and 'How' of how directors think, shows are produced, and what goes into the theatrical process!!!
(Mitchell L. Ernst, PA)

…theatre changes lives. From the simple mechanics of learning how to project your voice and "finding your light" and connecting with and audience... to the deeper soul searching actors do to explore a new character, the work and sweat that brings these scripts to life... These are the building blocks for ANY career. Just look at YLT's stage today! There's a doctor, an attorney, teachers, a TV reporter... All of them were theatre kids first. I would not be who I am if it wasn't for theatrical opportunities, and places like York Little Theatre.
(Dara Rees, PA)

…in "Theatre in America: Appraisal & Challenges", the authors point out that Community Theatre plays an important role in American theater. It is the largest, by far, of theatre's numerous segments and has the best chance of reaching the average citizen and family, particularly in areas not served by professional theatre. For many, it offers the only opportunity to see live drama. It was very important and meaningful to me growing up in an area without access to professional or education theatre. As an adult, it has proven to be important to my whole family, particularly my daughters. Communities that are fortunate to have such a theatre, should recognize its value. Additionally, people come from all over to see their friends in YLT productions -- MD, WV VA and DC. These out-of-towners eat at restaurants in York, go out for coffee afterwards, some stay overnight. There are economic benefits for supporting community theatre.
(Vicki Hodziewich, WV)

…theatre has helped me find who I am and YLT was my launching pad. If it wasn't for YLT, and the people I've met their through the years, God only knows where or who I'd be today. So many people have already stated, better than I can, why community theatre, and theatre in general is so important, so I will just say this...Everybody has a dream. YLT gives people a chance to live out that dream.
(Toby Bradbury, PA)

…because no matter what you think of your experience there, you've grown in some way. Want to grow so much that you can’t put a finger on each way YLT has shaped you? Go get involved there more often. York county wouldn’t be York County without York Little Theatre.
(Lyle Hieronymus, PA)

…it gives people that are interested in watching or participating in theater a way to express and enjoy themselves. But most of all my community needs YLT because it adds culture to the community.
(Kyle Lape, PA)

...if it wasn't for the first show we saw a few years ago that taught us "To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go, To right the unrightable wrong, To love pure and chaste from afar, To try when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star," we wouldn't currently be on the other side of the country chasing our dreams. Thank you, YLT, for your impact and for launching us on this amazing journey!
(Joshua York, CA)

…YLT is that rare community theatre that consistently offers challenging AND crowd-pleasing seasons. YLT is unafraid to take risks, a necessary factor in creating art. I am not so naive to state that the creation of art is the only important factor -- that's why YLT is so remarkable. Their seasons are typically a thoughtful blend of classic and well-loved plays and musicals, entertaining children's shows, and thought-provoking lesser-known works. I remember my experiences at YLT, both as an actor and as an audience member, with great fondness.
(Kelli Kauterman Eberlein, PA)

…it provides a creative outlet that is separate from everyday. You don't have to think about your crazy life or bad things that happen at school or work, you can just think about the show and how you can be the greatest actor/actress you can be. You also make great friends there with similar interests and that can be really difficult to manage these days. I adore YLT and can't wait to be involved in more shows there!
(Hannah Clough, PA)

...it provides a safe and secure place where youth can practice and perfect the art of acting. It is a place where someone can be themselves and not worry about anything else that is happening in their lives. YLT is the best medicine.
(Kirk Wisler, PA)

…there is no other place like York's Learning Theatre, York's Leading Theatre. There's nothing "little" about York Little Theatre. For decades, it has provided a priceless education to the community at a rate that defies any other institution's tuition. We need YLT because York County's citizens are more rounded, more disciplined, more socially aware and creative because of their involvement with this icon of culture. Whether one is constructing a set, addressing mailers, cataloging costumes, a stage hand or the star of a show, one learns about our community; its needs, its outlooks, and how to get along because of the YLT experience. Because of one's experience at YLT, York County has better, more knowledgeable, more satisfied citizens. YLT is a "quality of life" indicator for York County and the surrounding communities. There is no other place that allows for such creative expression to be exercised in a safe and nurturing environment. Without YLT, York might as well be another Watts.
(Rodd Robertson, PA)

…there are many people in the York area that are transplants from around the Country and YLT welcomes everyone and makes them feel at home. YLT is a family and a community treasure."
(Ken Barber, PA)

…without it creative instincts would die on the vine and we would be forced to live in boring barrenness.
(Betty Zaboly, TX)

... it's a place where you not only do something you love, but also make lasting friendships along the way. Besides, without the arts, what happens to creativity?
(Lisa Lawmaster Hess, PA)

…the live arts are what define our civilization. YLT is an incredible cultural asset that this community has developed, nurtured, and woven into the very threads of our identity. The Arts serve as more than mere entertainment. They define who we are. They allow our thoughts, hopes, visions to be expressed and developed. They move us forward and define where we've been. They challenge us. YLT has allowed the York community to be actively participating in that process for over 75 years; as performers, committee members, audience members, backstage, costume designers, lighting designers, volunteers, office staff, and in many other capacities! Thank you, YLT, for being such an important part of all of our lives! We need you in our community!
(Dr. Robert Filer, PA)

…the strength and character of a community is kept by its storytellers.
(Courtney Shumway, PA)

…creativity holds no price. Inspiration has no limits; and a place that gives a chance to put in both for a person, cannot be taken away without a second thought of morality.
(Chris Patterson, PA)

…we have enjoyed seeing many wonderful shows and meeting many wonderful people over the 35 years we have been buying season tickets – five or six good shows and plays to look forward to each year. Also enjoyed being a volunteer for many years. We need to keep it going. York needs it.
(Rachel and Arthur Eckenrode, PA)
